Evelyn Elizabeth Betts, 94, residing in Concordia of Cabot, passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, at Butler Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Evelyn was born on Nov. 9, 1928, in Chambersburg, Pa., to the late Harvey and Sarah (Good) Picking.

She graduated from Shippensburg College and was employed as a teacher in both New York and Butler. Evelyn would later work in the Butler County Assistance Office as a caseworker, where she acquired many friends, whom she looked forward to meeting for luncheons well after her retirement.

Evelyn enjoyed swimming and boating at her summer cottage in Conneaut Lake for many years, which included lots of family memories. Her hobbies also included cooking, baking and sewing. She loved her Florida vacations to visit brothers and their families. She was also a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who cherished spending time with her family.

Evelyn is survived by her two sons, John (Grace) Betts and Ken (Mary) Betts, and her daughter, Sharon Betts. She was also the loving grandmother of Sonya (Brock) Elliot, John Betts, Jenn Betts, Jackie Betts and Julia Betts; and stepgrandchildren, Becki (Michael) Skibinski, Steve (Michelle) Green and Nicky Green. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Cameron Elliot, Delaney Betts and Olivia Hageman; as well as six stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-great-granddaughter. Evelyn also leaves behind a beloved brother, Harold Picking of Florida; a sister-in-law, Frances Betts of Waynesboro, Pa.; and a great number of very special nieces and nephews. All who knew her, loved her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, John Henry Betts, who passed on Nov. 15, 2011; as well as her brothers, Melvin and Ralph Picking.

BETTS — Friends of Evelyn Elizabeth Betts, who died Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, are invited to a visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at THOMPSON-MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 124 E. North St., Butler.

A memorial service will be held at the funeral home directly after the visitation at 2 p.m., with later interment occurring in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, Pa.
