Burrito business owner arrested for theft from Saxonburg business
The man who operated the burrito shop inside a Saxonburg grocery store is accused of stealing from the store.
Brett B. Hartshorn, the owner of Burritos By Brett, is facing 19 counts felony of retail theft, according to charges filed Friday.
He is accused of stealing items from Sprankle’s Neighborhood Market in Saxonburg on 19 different days in September.
Burritos By Brett operates as a food truck, but also operates its business within the Saxonburg location of Sprankle’s on West Water Street.
According to charging documents, Hartshorn was seen on surveillance video taking items “almost daily” from the grocery store. Items taken by Hartshorn were Starbucks coffee and batteries, and the financial damages to the store from the series of thefts amount to roughly $216, police said.
Hartshorn has a history of theft-related arrests dating back to 2008, according to state documents.
Doug Sprankle, the owner of Sprankle’s Neighborhood Market, declined to comment at this time.
Hartshorn’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. Oct. 18 in front of district judge Sue Haggerty.
