Marcia Tompkins
Marcia M. Stuckie Tompkins, 81, of Pikeville, Tenn., passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Friday, Aug. 11, 2023.
Born in Butler, Marcia was the eldest daughter of the late Floyd H. Stuckie and the late Betty M. Wagner Stuckie. On Sept. 5, 1959, she married the love of her life, Alan Lee Tompkins, who passed on Nov. 3, 2022.
Marcia attended Butler High School and worked for Mine Safety Appliances in Callery as a production supervisor until the plant shut down. She then transferred to the North Carolina MSA plant where she retired. It was then that they decided to leave the ocean and move to the tranquil mountains of Tennessee.
Earlier in her life, Marcia and Alan lived in Connoquenessing and eventually moved to a small farm in West Liberty. These were the happiest years of her life, for Marcia loved animals and she was able to have her cows, chickens, rabbits, sheep and goats. She had many talents including sewing and quilting, painting, decorating, gardening, baking and cooking. The family Christmas dinners were memorable and always topped off with her secret recipe of suet pudding and brandy sauce.
Marcia leaves behind to cherish her memory her sister, Diann (Dennis) Morse; brother-in-law, Frederick Dean Tompkins; sisters-in-law, Margie (John) Tompkins, Cheri (Chuck) Caputo, Alecia (Jack) Matotek, Rebecca Layden, Elizabeth Krenzynski and Amy LeDesma; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marcia was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Lee Tompkins; parents, Floyd and Betty Stuckie; sister, Gail Snyder; sister-in-law, Catherine (Geibel) Tompkins; and brothers-in-law, Robert Snyder, John Ira Tompkins Jr. and Robert Lynn Tompkins.
Marcia’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to her niece, Sandy Barlett, and Sandy’s husband, Randy Barlett, for the many days that they traveled to Tennessee after Alan’s death to help Marcia with many tasks and eventually the support and caregiving in her final weeks of life.
TOMPKINS — A memorial service will be held for Alan L. and Marcia M. Tompkins at noon Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 330 Hannahstown Road, Cabot.
