Katie Montag
Heaven became a happier place filled with smiles on Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, when Katie C. (Katherine Louisa) Montag, 92, of Butler, entered after peacefully passing away at Newhaven Court under hospice care, surrounded by her family.
Born Sept. 8, 1934, in Noblesville, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Inez Berg Cloe.
She was a member of the Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church, Butler, where she previously served as a church deacon.
Katie was a graduate of Indiana University, a proud No. 1 Hoosier fan and a member of AOII. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in elementary education, she went on to teaching in elementary schools in San Diego, Calif., where she met the love of her life, Ralph, and they had many adventures together, including raising a family of five children. She retired in 2000 from the Slippery Rock Area School District, where she had taught at the former Prospect Elementary School, now known as the Moraine Elementary School. Mrs. Montag loved teaching children, said it was the best job ever, and she talked about teaching until the very end.
She loved her family and spoiling her grandchildren. She brought a spark of magic to every holiday and made them cherished and memorable. She also loved to go shopping more than anyone and passed that onto her family in countless shopping adventures together.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Letty) Montag, of the Philippines, Debbie Montag-Evans, of Butler, Kelli (Greg) Wigley, of Boardman, Ohio, Allison Montag, of Butler, and Amanda (Michael) Montag-Farina, of Butler; seven grandchildren, Steven Montag, Anna Montag, Sandra Wigley, Katelyn (Chandler) Evans-Miller, Levi Evans, Kenzie Wigley and Lily Montag; and two siblings, Brenda (Ken) Wolf and Alan (Susan) Cloe — all of whom will always be in awe of her pure happiness, beauty and joy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Montag, whom she married Sept. 14, 1960, and who passed away Oct. 7, 2006.
Katie C. and her family wish to thank her New Haven LifeStories/Along the Journey family, who have lovingly been with her every step of the way, as well as VNA Hospice for their care and support. She remained happy, kind, smart and active throughout her courageous battle with dementia.
