Man accused of kicking, spitting on officers

A Freedom man was charged with aggravated assault and multiple misdemeanors for allegedly spitting at and kicking Cranberry Township police officers.

Daniel R. Pauley, 33, was charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanors resisting arrest and trespassing and summary public drunkenness for an incident that occurred early Thursday.

At 12:31 a.m., police were dispatched to Sheetz on Freedom Road for a trespassing male. Upon arrival, Pauley was found outside the building, police said.

Police asked Pauley to leave the property. Pauley responded by screaming to officers that he was waiting for a ride home, police said.

After officers continually asked him to move across the street, Pauley became angry and shouted at the officers, police said.

According to charging documents, officers advised Pauley that he was under arrest. A struggle ensued as police brought Pauley into custody.

Pauley shouted obscenities at officers during a pat down. That’s when they detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from him, according to documents.

Police said as they tried to transport Pauley, he resisted and refused to sit in the seat. Pauley then kicked the officers and spit in one’s face, according to police. He eventually was transported back to the station.

Pauley is being held in Butler County Prison in lieu of a $7,500 bond. His preliminary hearing before District Judge Kevin Flaherty is scheduled for Jan. 6.
