Hearing waived in case involving drugs stored in toilet
A defendant who police say hid crack cocaine in his toilet tank waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday.
Vincent R. Pointer, 29, will remain in Butler County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bond.
He appeared Monday morning in prison garb and handcuffs in District Judge William Fullerton’s court, where he waived the preliminary hearing.
Butler police charged Pointer in with felony drug sales and criminal use of a communication device as well as misdemeanors tampering with evidence and use and possession of drug paraphernalia in early July.
Police said they received information that Pointer, who had multiple arrest warrants outstanding in Philadelphia, was suspected to be dealing drugs from his Butler apartment.
Police said they found a red-and-black sock containing a large spherical object containing a substance consistent with crack cocaine, as well as marijuana, a cellphone and a “corner” bag of suspected crack cocaine in the apartment.
The total amount of suspected crack in the apartment was 82 grams.
Officers also found a cellphone with several conversations related to the sale of crack cocaine.
Police said Pointer misidentified himself to them in June after a fight near West Cunningham Street.
Once they discovered his true identity, police learned of his outstanding warrants in Philadelphia.
