Former SV student charged with trespass, drug sales

A former Seneca Valley School District student returned to his alma mater for a visit and left with felony drug charges, according to charges filed Monday.

Jackson Township police charged Zaire S. Agrate, 20, of Cranberry Township, with felonies criminal trespass and drug sales as well as misdemeanors for use and possession of drug paraphernalia following an incident Oct. 19.

Police said they responded to Seneca Valley Senior High School at about 1 p.m. for a report of a former student being escorted from the building. Half an hour later, school administration provided police with a backpack that was found after the former student was removed. The backpack contained 87 grams of marijuana, empty stamp bags and a digital scale.

Agrate and another former Seneca Valley student were identified by administration entering the building during a class change. Police said a security guard requested they check in at the office.

“According to administration, Agrate was a well-respected former student and he stated he wished to see a specific member of the teaching staff about a career or business venture that he was attempting to put together on his own,” the investigating officer said in the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, administration told police they did not suspect anything suspicious about Agrate’s visit.

Police said surveillance footage showed Agrate proceeding to a second floor classroom with a backpack and leaving five minutes later without it. Administration is then seen asking Agrate to leave the building and escorting him out.

The investigating officer said Agrate later admitted to owning the backpack. Agrate told police via a phone call that he didn’t intend to sell any of the marijuana in the bag to students and that he was trying to start a business selling marijuana.

As of Monday, a preliminary hearing for Agrate was not scheduled.
