Man assaulted with vacuum, two people charged
An incident resulting in a victim being whacked with a vacuum cleaner resulted in police filing charges against two people Wednesday.
Richard J. Russell, 25, and Robin J. Fleischer, 29, both of Butler, were charged by Butler City Police with criminal conspiracy aggravated assault following an incident in August.
Russell received additional charges of aggravated assault, felony criminal trespass and summary criminal mischief.
As of Thursday, preliminary hearings for Russell and Fleischer have not been scheduled.
According to charging documents, police responded to a victim reporting that his door had been kicked in and he’d been assaulted around 11:20 p.m. Aug. 18.
Upon arrival, police said the victim had blood dripping from his head, and his apartment door was severely damaged.
Police said the victim let a woman, later identified as Fleischer, into the apartment and gave her $40. A man, later identified as Russell, entered shortly after. The victim took back the money for fear of being robbed and attempted to leave the apartment, police said.
According to the affidavit, the victim was struck on the back of the head before he closed and locked the apartment door. Russell kicked the door until the lock broke, police said, striking the witness with a vacuum cleaner before he and Fleischer fled the scene.
Following an investigation of Russell, police took him into custody Aug. 23 on active warrants out of Allegheny County. He remains in Butler County Prison.
Police said Fleischer admitted to being at the victim’s home the night of the assault.
