Fayette County man accused of dealing drugs

A Brownsville man with a learner’s permit was pulled over in January and allegedly found with multiple drugs, including some concealed in faux condom wrappers, according to police.

More than eight months following the Jan. 19 traffic stop, Butler Township Police filed charges Friday against Marquis McWhorter Honay, including felony drug sales and misdemeanor counts of drug and paraphernalia possession, after police said they found marijuana and oxycodone in his vehicle.

McWhorter Honay has not been arrested on the charges, and a preliminary hearing has yet to be scheduled.

According to the affidavit, police saw McWhorter Honay make an unsignaled left turn from the Speedway parking lot onto Fairground Hill Road.

Police said McWhorter Honay was driving, and a woman was in the front passenger seat. Officers perceived an “overwhelming smell of marijuana” emitting from the vehicle.

Police said after some investigation and discussion, officers spotted a bag of pills in the back-seat area. Police said they requested a K-9 unit.

Police said the dog did not indicate whether drugs were in the car, but the vehicle was still seized due to the pills being in plain view. Police noted there were a number of air fresheners strewn about the vehicle.

"It should also be noted the vehicle did not have insurance as of Dec. 17,“ police said.

The vehicle search turned up about 225 grams of marijuana, which is about 8 ounces worth, police said.

Police said most of the marijuana was packaged in smaller baggies, some of which were small zip-close bags designed to look like condom wrappers.

According to an Amazon listing for the faux wrappers, the product description claims to be “dispensary-grade bags” that can hold up to 1 gram of an unnamed substance.

The description also claims the baggies are smell-proof, waterproof and puncture resistant.

Police said in addition to the marijuana, officers also found 35 pills of oxycodone in a separate plastic bag. Police said all of the marijuana and the pills have been lab-tested and identified as such.

With the addition of the case, McWhorter Honay now has two active cases in Butler County and one in Fayette County.

The Fayette County case was filed May 31, and it includes felony drug and gun charges. McWhorter Honay was released at that time on $25,000 unsecured bond.

McWhorter Honay’s other Butler County case was filed March 7, and it includes a felony terroristic threats charges, after he was accused of verbally threatening a DMV employee during a driver’s test.

McWhorter Honay had been released on his own recognizance following his arraignment on those charges.
