SR school district hires security, supplemental positions

In preparation for the upcoming school year, Slippery Rock Area School District’s board of education voted on staff and streaming services Monday afternoon.

Students will return to elementary, middle and high school campuses Wednesday, according to superintendent Alfonso Angelucci.

The board approved hiring multiple staff members across the district’s four schools, he said, including another security guard, for the coming year.

“Through a state grant, we contracted through Right Arm Tactical Solutions and are adding additional security to our staff,” Angelucci said. “They’ll mostly be at Moraine Elementary School.”

The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency updated its grant funds with the release of the 2022-23 state budget released in July.

The district has contracted security staff using Right Arm Tactical Solutions for years, according to Angelucci, and approved $66,880 in grant funds to be used for the salary and benefits of the new staff member.

The board also approved the hiring of lunch staff, substitute teachers and teacher’s aide positions, Angelucci said.

“The personnel items were staff transfers and hires to get us to the start of the school year with the right people in place on Wednesday,” he said.

In addition, the board approved the use of a sports broadcasting service called PlayOn! Sports as early as this year.

“Our new athletic director, Brienna Simons, proposed it to the school at the athletic meeting,” he said. “It’s a mechanism so parents, alumni and fans can watch football and basketball games and other school activities.”

The streaming service is of no cost to the district, Angelucci said.

“We may not have it working for the first couple of games, as we have to get the hardware installed,” he said.

The next Slippery Rock Area School District board meeting is at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 29 in the Middle School library. The Education Program Committee will gather prior to the meeting at 6 p.m.
