Knoch to make decisions next week
The motorcycle classes held each summer in the Knoch School District parking lot could be a thing of the past by next week.
The Knoch School Board heard David Foley, superintendent, report at Wednesday’s meeting that officials from the new organization that operates the classes have not returned paperwork required to hold the classes on the lot.
Foley said if the district has no contact from the organization, which he did not name, by Monday, the district will be unable to approve classes for next spring and summer.
“That would be a shame, because I know a lot of people take advantage of that class,” Foley said.
The board also will vote next week on giving the school police a 50-cent raise, and increasing the daily pay for substitute teachers from $100 to $105 per day for the 2022-23 school year.
The $135 paid to substitutes who regularly replace Knoch teachers will remain the same, as will the $120 per day for retired teachers who serve as substitutes.
Foley said he feels confident that the significant substitute shortage experienced last year will abate somewhat in the 2022-23 school year because the district is now using ESS Education of Knoxville, Tenn.
“They seem very attentive to our needs,” Foley said. “We may have better luck.”
The board also is expected to vote to re-approve the optional $25 Chromebook protection plan.
Families can pay the one-time annual fee for coverage against damage to their students’ district-issued Chromebook laptop computers.
“We hope parents take advantage of that,” Foley said.
The board also will vote to outsource the district’s human resources department to Paychex HR Solutions of Rochester, N.Y.
Foley said the company would supply the district with a dedicated human resources professional who would ensure the district is in compliance regarding labor laws and union contract issues.
The district would retain its human resources coordinator, who could ask questions of the Paychex contractor, if necessary.
