W.Va. man accused of sexual assault in Center Twp.
An 84-year-old, retired Catholic priest from West Virginia is charged with sexually assaulting a boy over a span of five years in Center Township.
Perry Malacaman, of Beckley, W.Va., was charged Wednesday by Pennsylvania state police with two felonies, corruption of minors and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a minor under the age of 16, and misdemeanor indecent assault.
According to charging documents, Malacaman sexually abused the juvenile repeatedly when the male was 9 to 14 years old and Malacaman was 74 to 79 years old. Malacaman is identified as a former priest at the St. Francis de Sales Church in West Virginia.
“(The male) advised that Malacaman sexually assaulted him on more than five separate occasions, all at the same location (in Center Township,)” the investigating officer said.
The male, now 18 years old, stated in the affidavit that Malacaman would wake him around 2 or 3 a.m., take him to the basement, repeatedly touch his genitals and perform oral sex acts.
According to police, the male’s father contacted Malacaman via video call after learning of the abuse. When confronted by the father, Malacaman allegedly said he put lotion on the child for eczema and apologized, saying “I’m so sorry” among other phrases.
Malacaman has not yet been arrested and a preliminary hearing is not yet scheduled.
