Girls’ testimony sends fondling case to trial

EVANS CITY — The testimony of two girls at a preliminary hearing Tuesday was enough to move forward a felony case involving fondling against a Lancaster Township man.

Free on $25,000 unsecured bond, Corey A. Wilson, 50, appeared before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz, related to charges including two felony counts corruption of minors, one misdemeanor count of indecent assault of a minor and one misdemeanor count of indecent exposure.

Following testimony from two young girls, Marcinkiewicz moved forward all charges to the Butler County Common Pleas Court.

The first girl to testify, an 11-year-old, said when she was 10, Wilson was alone with her and tried to pull her into touching him inappropriately.

During direct testimony, the girl said she did not make contact with him, but she described the action as an aggressive motion.

During cross-examination by Wilson’s attorney Michael Zunder, the girl then said the act was not forceful, but he had grabbed her wrist and moved her hand toward an inappropriate area.

She said Wilson also tried to pull up her shirt and made inappropriate contact with her at that time.

“I didn’t say anything because I was scared,” the girl said.

The second girl, 15, said Wilson on multiple occasions had slapped her butt and rough-housed in the form of tickling. The girl said on more than one occasion, these acts made her feel uncomfortable, especially when his hands made contact with inappropriate areas.

The 15-year-old said there was also one instance where Wilson exposed himself to her.

“He was like joking, messing around, like, ‘You wanna see it?’” she said. “I said ‘No.’”

She said he exposed himself anyway and told her not to tell anyone, “especially not your mom.”

During cross-examination, Zunder asked a series of questions during which time the girl said Wilson often rough-housed, tickled and slapped the butts of other children in her household and her mother.

Zunder asked a series of questions, and the girl’s testimony differed from statements listed in charging documents.

In the affidavit, the girl told officers Wilson tried to make her touch him at that point, but during cross-examination, she said he did not grab her arms or force her in any way. She said she was backed against a wall, until someone entered the room and disrupted the encounter.

The girl was adamant she saw Wilson exposed indecently.

“I wasn’t paying attention much. I was closing my eyes,” she said. “I eventually did see it.”

Wilson is scheduled to appear for formal arraignment Aug. 23 in county court.
