SLIPPERY ROCK — The Top Ten seniors graduating from the class of 2022 from Slippery Rock Area High School were honored with a ceremony. Top Ten senior graduates chose a staff member who has been an inspiration to them. The ceremony included an exchange about how the student was inspired by the staff member.

The Springfield Restaurant Group honored the Top Ten Seniors with a dinner at Rachel’s Roadhouse in Butler along with the staff members.

Mars Area Middle School eighth-graders Cecilia Christy and Sean Franklin were selected to receive the American Legion Award for the 2021-22 School Year.

The award is presented to eighth-graders who exhibit the highest standards of scholarship, leadership, patriotism, service, courage, honor and integrity. Each school year, teachers nominate students for the recognition; and, all eighth-graders are asked to vote for one boy and one girl from the list of nominees.

Karah Nelson, a resident of Mars, was named a spring 2022 Distinguished Scholar at Rockford University, Rockford, Ill. Full-time (12 or more credits) students who earned at least a 3.75 GPA with no grades below "C" and completed all requirements for the semester are named Distinguished Scholars.

Reilly Martin, a tenth-grader at First Baptist Christian School, 221 E. New Castle St. in Butler, was a 2022 Carson Scholarship winner and a 2022 Carson Recognized Scholar.

She is the daughter of Joel Hills and the stepdaughter of Desiree Hills of Bruin.

Carson Scholars are defined as students in grades 5 through 12 who have previously been awarded a Carson Scholarship. Students are awarded based on their previous scholarship, a GPA of 3.75 or higher and their community service.

Two third-grade students from South Butler Primary School were awarded Good Citizenship Awards by the state Senate.

Calie Herman is the daughter of Scott Herman and Britnee Wiefling of Butler.

Colton Findon is the son of Nicole and Clayton Findon of Butler.

Greg Manadalas, the SBPS principal, presented Calie and Colton with their certificates at a school assembly.
