Butler boys top-seeded in 9 events at district meet

SLIPPERY ROCK — Butler’s boys are top-seeded in nine of the 18 Class AAA events entering the WPIAL Track and Field Championships Wednesday at Slippery Rock University.

The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.

CJ Singleton has the best times in the district in the 800, 1,600 and 3,2300 meters. Guinness Brown is top-seeded in the 200 and 400 meters in the Triple-A meet. The Golden Tornado also own the fastest times in the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays.

Butler’s 4x100 consists of any combination of Presley Ornelas, Brown, Landon Lacey, Brayden Young, Lucas Slear and David Graef. The 4x400 features Ryder Kriley, Young, Slear, Brown, Lacey and Ornelas while the 4x800 features Raine Gratzmiller, Kriley, Sage Vavro, Singleton, Carson Knight and Isaac Busler.

Tristan McGarrah has the highest pole vault in WPIAL AAA so far this season at over 15 feet.

In Class AA, North Catholic’s Trevor Paschall is top-seeded in the 100, 200 and 400 meters.

On the girls side, Butler’s Megan Baggetta is top-seeded in the Class AAA triple jump. North Catholic’s Alaina Hicks is the top seed in the girls Class AA 3,200 meters.

Butler’s boys have a few other athletes seeded among the top three in their respective events. They include Tyler Rekich (second in long jump, third in javelin), Vavro (second in 1,600), Drew Griffith (second in 3,200), Ryan Porch (third in long jump), Ornelas (third in both hurdles). Aubrey Rock is seeded fourth in the triple jump, Alli Morrow fifth in the long jump on the girls side.

In boys Class AA, North Catholic’s Luke Mager is seeded third in the 100, Owen Schessler third in the 3,200. In AAA, Seneca Valley’s Luke Simpson is second in the 800, Jonathan Price second in the triple jump, Eli Dewitt fourth in the 1,600 and Willem Craver fourth in the discus.

In girls Class AA, North Catholic’s Tehya Dave is second in the 200 and 400, Aniela Balog second in the long jump, Caroline Adams third in the pole vault.

In girls Class AAA, Mars’ Lauren Campion is fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, Seneca Valley’s Maddy Berger fifth. Knoch’s Madison Hunt is second in the shot put, Seneca Valley’s Madison Monahan fifth in the pole vault.
