Tornado beats Moon

In a game that saw the two teams combine for a total of 28 hits, Butler came out on top against Moon, 11-10. Madden Clement, Ethan Trettel, Cooper Baxter, James Desmond, and Lance Slater all had two hits or more as the Golden Tornado had 1 in total.

Butler improved its record to 12-5 and will face Greater Latrobe at the Butler Senior High field Thursday.

Boys Tennis

North Catholic fell shy of a WPIAL Class 2A crown at the Boys Tennis Team Championships Wednesday, giving way to Quaker Valley, 3-2.

The Trojans’ Nicholas Scheller defeated the Quakers’ Mike Sirianni, 6-0, 6-1 in the first singles match. Alex Garvey was victorious for North in the third singles pairing, beating Devin Carter, in three sets.

Along with the second singles tilt, Quaker Valley won both doubles matchups to take home the title.

Softball

Knoch 6, Deer Lakes 2 — The Knights downed non-conference opponent Lancers on the road Wednesday behind multi-hit efforts from Madi Gardner and Taylor Davis.

Lindsay Edwards and Brynne Smith both singled and combined to drive five runners in.

Karns City 11, Moniteau 1 — Ashley Fox was one of three Gremlins with at least two knocks in this win over the Warriors. Jess Dunn, Sarah Patton, and Marra Patton each had a pair of RBIs.

Marra Patton pitched all five innings, allowing one run and striking out five.

Track and Field

Moniteau defeated Clarion-Limestone, 103-47, and Redbank Valley, 101-48, in this triangular meet Tuesday. Moniteau’s 4x100 team consisting of Allie Pry, Katelyn Reott, Camilla Passoni, and Rylee Long set a school record by winning the event in 52.8 seconds.

Slippery Rock hosted Hickory Tuesday for its last dual meet of the season. The boys team prevailed over the Hornets by a 98-52 score to finish second in the region. Levi Prementine won both hurdle events on the way to the Rockets’ victory.

Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley faced off with Cranberry and Keystone in a triangular meet Tuesday. The boys downed the Berries, 87-63, and fell to the Panthers, 75-69. Skylar Roxbury ran the 200-meters in 23.3 seconds and Hayden Smith won the high jump with a mark of six feet, seven inches.
