Overall School Winner of the DARE Essay Contest at South Butler Intermediate Elementary School was Hattie Ellison, pictured with Sgt. Harry Callithen of the county sheriff's office, who teaches the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) to all fifth graders.

Fifth graders at South Butler Intermediate Elementary School recently received certificates heralding their graduation from the county Drug Abuse Resistance Education program.

Sgt. Harry Callithen of the Butler County Sheriff’s Department conferred the certificates upon the graduates.

“Deputy Harry” also recognized the winners of the DARE essay contest.

The overall school winner was Hattie Ellison.

Third place essay winners were Leah Yesconis, Hunter Breck, Alyssa Starr, Bethany Donehue, Avery Ortmann, Tripp Santora and Hannah Miller.

Second place winners were Rachel Karwoski, Madison Bachman, Zoey Connor, Claire Patterson and Leile Crowe (not pictured, Dylan Cebollero).

First place winners were Hunter Smith, Maggie Leicher, Piper Lindsay, Hattie Ellison, Lilah Ann Rock, Lizzie Sinka and Brianna Ritzert.
