Butler wrestlers claim title at Southmoreland

Levi Donnel and Mickey Kreinbucher won weight class titles at 145 and 172 pounds, respectively, as Butler's wrestling team won the 29-team Southmoreland Tournament Tuesday night.

The Golden Tornado tallied 181.5 points, five points in front of second-place Plum and 11.5 ahead of third-place Beth-Center.

Donnel had a pin and technical fall among his four victories. He defeated Chase Brandebura of Carlynton, 16-3, in the 145-pound final.

Kreinbucher had two pins — including a fall in just 14 seconds — before scoring a 5-1 decision over Rowan Holmes of Somerset in the 172-pound final.

Ana Malovich at 106 and Kelly Schaukowitsch at 113 both placed second for the Tornado. Malovich had three pins before losing by fall to Rylen Campbell of Plum in the finals. Schaukowitsch dropped a 2-0 decision to Ramil Islamov of Baldwin in the finals.

Landon Christie placed fifth at 189 and Ethan Babay sixth at heavyweight for Butler. Babay won his first three matches by pin.

Butler won the tournament despite missing mainstays Cooper Baxter and Jake Pomykata from its lineup.
