Prospect man dead, woman flown to hospital following motorcycle crash
The driver of a motorcycle died and his passenger was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital after a two-vehicle crash late Sunday, April 12, at the intersection of Chicora and Oneida Valley roads.
An SUV with a woman and infant inside struck the duo while the motorcyclists were attempting a left turn onto the Route 422 on-ramp at the Summit Township intersection, according to state police. Police did not indicate which driver was at fault in the crash.
Glen K. Dalton Jr., 59, of Prospect suffered fatal injuries in the crash. His passenger, Joann T. Dalton, 58, also of Prospect, was taken to UPMC Presbyterian with suspected serious injury. Joann Dalton was taken to the Pittsburgh hospital by Stat MedEvac.
The Daltons had been driving a 2011 Harley-Davidson when a 2023 Chevrolet collided with the motorcycle, police said.
The Chevrolet was driven by Caitlyn Zuccher, 32, of East Butler. She and the infant — who is less than 1 year old — were uninjured in the crash, according to police.
The crash was reported at 8:38 p.m. Calls to dispatch indicated two motorcycle riders were trapped under the other vehicle. Reports indicated a man was unresponsive at the scene.
According to police, the motorcycle was traveling on Chicora Road, and the driver attempted to make a left turn onto the Route 422 on-ramp to travel west.
Police said the Chevrolet was traveling the opposite direction on Route 68 and struck the motorcycle at the intersection of Chicora Road and Oneida Valley Road.
The Butler County coroner’s office confirmed its response to the scene.
Oneida Valley Road was closed at its intersection with Hendricks Road. The ramps to Route 422 were also shut down shortly after the crash. The roads were reopened in the early hours of Monday morning.
State police are handling the investigation. Also responding to the Sunday evening crash were first responders from Herman Volunteer Fire Department, Oneida Valley Volunteer Fire Department, the Butler Bureau of Fire, the East Butler Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance, Stat MedEvac and Butler Ambulance Service.
PennDOT assisted with traffic and John Malinski’s Towing removed both vehicles from the intersection.
