County to receive almost $3.9M

The Marcellus Shale Coalition announced the annual disbursements of funds collected in the impact fee charged to shale gas drillers in Pennsylvania.

The impact fee has generated more than $2 billion in revenue since 2012, including $146.3 million in 2020, a coalition news release said.

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania will benefit from the disbursements, including Butler County, which will receive almost $3.9 million.

In September, Leslie Osche, chairwoman of the county commissioners, said impact fees have generated more than $40 million for Butler County since 2012, directly improving local roads, bridges, parks and first-responder services.

David Callahan, coalition president, said in the past decade, $60 million of the impact fee has gone to the state Department of Environmental Protection for oversight of the gas industry, $69 million to county conservation districts, $146 million to the Marcellus Legacy Fund for investments in watershed protection, parks, trails, recreation and other outdoor ventures, and $183 million to sewer and water infrastructure.
