Half of state residents have received first shot of vaccine

40 percent of adults vaccinated

A little more than half of the state's 12.8 million residents have received their first COVID-19 vaccination, and more than 40% of residents age 18 and older are fully vaccinated, the state Department of Health said Wednesday.

The department said 3,646,861 people are fully vaccinated and 8,840,842 doses have been administered, including 5,494,037 first and single doses and 3,346,805 second doses. In the county, 20,152 people are partially vaccinated, and 66,709 people are fully vaccinated.

Butler Health System said the vaccine is readily available, and appointments and walk-ins are being accepted at BHS vaccine clinics at Clearview Mall and Clarion Hospital. Appointments can be scheduled at www.butlerhealthsystem.org.

The county saw 23 new cases of coronavirus and one additional death Wednesday, increasing the totals to 10,774 and 409, respectively, since the pandemic began. Butler Memorial Hospital is treating 13 COVID-19 patients, including four in intensive care, and reported the death of a COVID-19 patient Tuesday.

Statewide, 2,597 new cases raised the total to 1,164,216. About 27,868 of the cases in the state are among health care workers.

In nursing and personal care homes, 70,980 residents and 14,875 employees have COVID-19. Of the deaths in the state, 13,149 have been residents of nursing or personal care facilities.

There are 2,172 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 480 in intensive care. The 14-day moving average number of people hospitalized per day is starting to decrease after peaking at 2,661 patients, which is slightly below what it was at the height of the spring 2020 peak of 2,751 patients on May 3, 2020.
