County adds 32 COVID cases, 2 deaths as vaccinations continue

Clinic sites have appointments

COVID-19 cases continue to add up as vaccinations are administered at a rapid pace.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Wednesday reported 3,686 new cases across the state and 32 in the county.

The new cases increased the state total to 1,143,076 and the county total to 10,587 since the beginning of the pandemic.

About 27,612 of the cases in the state are among health care workers.

Butler Memorial Hospital is treating 13 COVID-19 patients, including four in the intensive care unit.

Cases are adding up even though 3,292,263 people are fully vaccinated and about 93,800 people are getting vaccinated every day. A total of 8,226,293 doses have been administered, including 5,208,688 first and single doses and 3,017,605 second doses. In the county, 21,603 people are partially vaccinated and 61,836 people are fully vaccinated.

Butler Health System is accepting walk-ins for vaccinations at its clinics at Clearview Mall and Clarion Hospital.

BHS said the vast majority of patients sick enough to be admitted for COVID-19 have not been vaccinated.

The number of people who have died from the coronavirus reached 26,129 with 57 new deaths statewide. In the county, two new deaths raised the total to 405 since the pandemic began.

Statewide there are 2,448 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 516 people in intensive care. The 14-day average number of people hospitalized per day is increasing, but is about 3,400 lower than it was at the peak of the pandemic in December 2020 and below what it was at the height of the spring peak in May 2020.

In licensed nursing and personal care homes, 70,600 residents and 14,759 employees have COVID-19. Of the deaths in the state, 13,103 have been residents of nursing or personal care facilities.

BHS said all residents ages 16 and older can sign up for vaccinations, and should do so because the coronavirus continues to spread in the community. Appointments can be scheduled at www.butlerhealthsystem.org.
