Boat rental at lake closed for season
The Crescent Bay Boat Rental Concession at Moraine State Park will remain closed through the 2020 season.
“(The owner) definitely examined it very closely and thought of numerous ways where maybe he could make it work, but ultimately, he didn't feel that it was in everyone's best interest to do it this season,” said Dustin Drew, park manager.
Drew said despite the boat rental staying closed, the boat launches and boating on the lake remain open to those who own their own boats or rent from elsewhere. He said he looks forward to the business' return next season.
The rental is a privately-owned company that is contracted to work within the park. The park has two other companies that contract with it — the Bike Trails and Rentals shop and another that owns the two food concession stands at each of the beaches.
Drew confirmed both the bike and food concessions are open to some degree.
A call was placed to the boat rental business, but was not immediately returned Tuesday.
“It's unfortunate, but we certainly respect the decision,” Drew said. “A lot of thought was put into it.”
