Man suffers moderate injuries after apparent fall from ATV

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — A man was taken to a hospital for injuries Sunday afternoon after he apparently fell off the all-terrain vehicle he was riding along railroad tracks in the township, authorities said.

State police said the man suffered moderate injuries in the accident about 2:10 p.m. near Branchton Road.

Police did not immediately release his name. He was taken by the Slippery Rock Rescue Team to Grove City Medical Center. His condition was not available.

A homeowner on the 500 block of Branchton Road told the Butler Eagle he was outside when he saw a rider-less ATV traveling on the side of the Canadian National Railway tracks, about a mile east of Route 8.

The vehicle moments later hit an embankment and flipped over.

The resident, who did not want to give his name, went to inspect and found the man, believed to be in his 50s, lying on the ground.

“He was wheezing and unconscious,” the homeowner said. He described the man as bleeding from the head, neck and face.

“It looked like it was upper-body injuries mostly,” the homeowner said. The man, he said, was not wearing a helmet.

The homeowner called 911, and the man eventually regained consciousness and was talking. An ambulance crew arrived and tended to him before taking him to the hospital.

No other information was available and police said their investigation continues.
