Mystery man ID'd, faces many charges

Ellis Bohon

It was a different kind of whodunit.

Troopers say a man last week was arrested after exposing himself and urinating twice — first in a fast- food restaurant parking lot and then at the state police barracks.

But when the suspect refused to identify himself, police said, he was placed in the Butler County Prison as “John Doe.” Prison officers later found him with suspected drugs and other contraband.

Authorities, however, eventually identified the man — Ellis Bohon, 34, of Alexandria, Va. He remains behind bars on charges in both incidents Wednesday.

Police initially encountered Bohon shortly after 12:30 a.m., authorities said, when they were called to the Taco Bell on Grove City Road in Slippery Rock for an unknown man refusing to leave the outside of the restaurant, which was closed.

By the time troopers got there, the suspect had been detained and was in the back of a Slippery Rock University police car. Police said he appeared intoxicated. He would not give his name.

While the suspect was detained, police said, “he exposed (himself) and urinated in the Taco Bell parking lot.”

Taco Bell employees told police that the defendant earlier had repeatedly tried to force open the locked doors, investigators said, after being advised the business was closed. He also is accused of punching the door.

Police said they had to use force to search the suspect after he refused to cooperate. While being driven to the barracks in Butler Township, he allegedly told the investigating trooper, “Just wait till you see me out of here.”

He also is accused of repeatedly pushing his knees and feet into the back of the passenger seat on the drive to the barracks. Police eventually stopped their car to reposition the defendant. When they did, police said, a set of brass knuckles were found on the suspect.

At the barracks, police said, he would not give his name, and for his date of birth he gave Dec. 26, 1776.

Police said he subsequently refused to cooperate with police efforts to identify him using a portable fingerprint reader.

“Five troopers had to utilize substantial force in order to compel the defendant to provide his fingerprints for identification,” according to charging documents.

The results, however, were inconclusive.

Police said that while the defendant was detained at the barracks, he “exposed himself and urinated on the floor.”

He was placed in the prison but at 4:45 a.m., correctional officers notified police that they had found the suspect with a glass smoking pipe, a wooden packing stick an unknown white substance .

District Judge William Fullerton arraigned the defendant as John Doe and later — once his identity was revealed — as Bohon on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance in prison and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Fullerton also arraigned him on charges stemming from the initial incident. He is charged in that case with possession of a prohibited offensive weapon, obstructing the administration of law, false identification to police, loitering and prowling at night, open lewdness and disorderly conduct, all misdemeanors.

Additionally, he is charged with summary public drunkenness. He is in prison on $50,000 bond. Online documents did not list an attorney for him.
