New sewage pump station to increase capacity OK'd
ZELIENOPLE — A new sewage pump station to be built by the Western Butler County Authority will replace a 1960s-era unit that has reached the end of its life.
The borough council approved the new pump station with two stipulations added by Councilwoman Mary Hess.
Hess asked for the motion to include that easements be provided by the property owner to run pipes and electrical service from the old station to the new one.
Jeffrey Rober, an engineer with Herbert, Rowland and Grubic, said the old station at the ATI property on West New Castle Street has been upgraded many times over the years, and much of its equipment has reached the end of its use.
The new station, which will cost about $750,000, will have the capacity to pump 460 gallons per minute. The existing station has a maximum capacity of 350 gallons per minute, Rober said.
He hopes to seek bids for the project in the summer and have the project finished within one year of Monday night's approval by council.
Customers will not notice any interruption in service as the old station will remain online until the new one is complete.
The new station will be built about 200 feet south of the existing station, but still on ATI property, Rober said.
The old station will be demolished once construction is complete.
