United Way council to honor Horan, Hoolahan, Purvis
Three history-making women and their impact on the community will be celebrated by the United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council in Butler County.
The trio chosen to be honored are Judge Marilyn J. Horan, United States District Court; Susan E. Hoolahan, president of UPMC Passavant; and Jean B. Purvis, founder of the Jean B. Purvis Community Health Center of Butler County.
“These women are really incredible role models,” said Sherrie Dunlap Gallagher, corporate relations manager for United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania Butler Region. “Horan was a family court judge in Butler County before being appointed to the federal bench. Hoolahan is the first female president at UPMC. Purvis founded the Butler County Community Health Center.”
The three women will be honored for their work in the community at the annual United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council Spring Mixer on Thursday at the Pittsburgh Marriott North, 100 Cranberry Woods Drive in Cranberry Township.
The spring mixer celebrates Women’s History Month and brings together dynamic, philanthropic women from across the county for an evening of networking, food, drinks and raffle prizes.
Gallagher said all proceeds from the event benefit WLC’s work in Butler County, which is centered on the needs of women and children in the county.
Amy Franz, Butler Region director for the United Way, said the organization uses data from the United Way’s 211 health and human services calls in its efforts in the county.
“We are able to help meet the needs of women in Butler County,” Franz said. “That’s how we decided to focus our work.”
