A portion of Sunset Drive in Center Township was closed Tuesday morning after a car struck and damaged a utility pole, authorities said.

One person was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with apparent minor injuries.

The crash happened about 6:20 a.m. north of Mahood Road. State police and Unionville volunteer firefighters shut down a small section, about one-eighth mile, of Sunset Drive between Route 8 and Mahood Road near the Unionville fire station.

The wires were “non electrical,” according to emergency crews. A CenturyLink worker inspected the damaged pole, which caused low-hanging cable and telephone wires, and the company later sent a crew out to make repairs.

Authorities said the driver was northbound when she lost control of her four-door sedan and hit the pole on an embankment. She was already out of the car when firefighters and police arrived.

A police accident report was not immediately available.

A fire department officer said it took “a coordinated effort” between the towing company and CenturyLink workers to remove the car, which was entangled in the pole's guide wires and resting against the embankment.

The road reopened about 8:30 a.m., according to Center Township public works officials.
