Fifth-graders at Penn Christian Academy created and presented their own inventions to a panel of “sharks.”
While the presentation was based on the popular “Shark Tank” television show, the project itself focused more on the invention process and the items invented. The winner was Owen Gillis with EZ Paste. Second place went to Ethan Bowser for Disint-a-trash and third place went to Ryleigh Thumma for Kibble Kage. Caiden Haralson received honorable mention for the Happier.
Several Mars Area High School students were selected to receive 2020 Pittsburgh Arts Region Scholastic Art Awards.Gold Keys were awarded junior Kendall Ceh for her piece, “Bubblegum;” junior Caroline Dunn for “Hazy Day;” junior Aspen Wilson for “Rise of Endangerment;” and sophomore Audrey Gehm for “Shattered.”Silver Keys went to senior Nicole Newtzie for her work, “Caboose,” and freshman Effie Frank for “Self Portrait in Blue.”Honorable mentions were awarded to senior Mina Beach for her piece “Mind Control;” senior Delaney Maitland for “Disembodied” and “Ian the Eland;” senior Rebecca Neiser for “Pink Lady;” junior Isabel Mannella for “Blooming;” junior Aspen Wilson for “Clown at the Lake;” sophomore Audrey Gehm for “No Evil;” and freshman Kaitlyn Ames for “I'm Doing All of This for You,” “It's the Little Things” and “Peaceful Boredom.”Gold Key winners' works will advance to the 2020 National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in New York.
