Lester A. Knox
Lester A. Knox passed away early Saturday morning, Jan. 11, 2020, at Quality Life Services in Grove City.
Lester was born Oct. 17, 1928, in Myoma, Adams Township, but had resided in Evans City for the past 26 years. He was the son of the late Jesse and Georgia Hudson Knox.
Lester worked for Purvis Brothers in Mars, for many years.
Lester spent his entire life singing and entertaining others with his beautiful tenor tones and sang lead with the “Men from Mars” gospel quartet. He also sang at many weddings and special events throughout the area, including Crestview Presbyterian Church in Callery.
He was an avid horse enthusiast, and had raised and owned several horses. He always took pride in leading the Mars Fourth of July Parade with his beloved horse, Duke. He also volunteered with great pride for 50 years as the announcer for draft horse events at the Big Butler Fair and the Butler Farm Show.
Surviving Lester are his wife of 72 years, Laura M. Bicehouse Knox, whom he married on March 28, 1947.
Lester is also survived by four children, James P. and his wife, Kathy Knox, of Lexington, N.C., John S. and his wife, Carol Knox, of Connoquenessing Township, Jeffrey L. and his wife, Tracey Knox, of Harrisville, and Jackie S. Knox Carson and her husband, Bob, of Connoquenessing Township; a brother, Raymond “Zeke” Knox and his wife, Nancy, of Callery; 10 grandchildren; 13 (plus one due any day) great-grand-children; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
KNOX — Friends of Lester A. Knox, who died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020, will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Boylan Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Connoquenessing Township, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Old Union Presbyterian Church, 200 Union Church Road, Mars, with the Rev. Peter C. de Vries Ph.D., church pastor, officiating.
Interment will be at Old Union Church Cemetery, Mars.
