Carmody keys Mars win over Freeport

Scores 22 as Planets win at tip-off tourney

Michael Carmody scored 22 points and Joey Craska drained three treys as Mars opened its boys basketball season with a 64-51 win over Freeport in the latter's tip-off tournament.

Drew Schlegel added 17 points for the Planets.

Vinnie Clark led three Yellowjackets in double figures with 14 points.

Scriven also had 10 rebounds for Moniteau.

Ethan McDeavitt added nine points and nine assists for the Warriors.

Alek Johnson and Ava Black each added 14 for the Planets, who jumped out to a 21-5 lead after the first quarter.

Mars will take on Slippery Rock in the championship game at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
