The deadline for older adults and state residents with disabilities to apply for a state rebate of up to $650 was recently extended through the end of the year. State Rep. Lee James, R-64th, said that his district office staff can help with the application process. “We can help people with the initial application and also help them check on the status of their rebate,” James said.

The rebates are provided through the state's Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, which benefits Pennsylvanians age 65 and older, widows and widowers age 50 and above and people with disabilities age 18 and older. The income limit is $35,000 per year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters, and half of Social Security income is excluded.

The maximum standard rebate is $650, but supplemental rebates for certain qualifying homeowners can bump rebates up to $975. Applications typically take six to eight weeks to process.
