Jackson development gets final approval

JACKSON TWP — In a meeting lasting 20 minutes Wednesday night, the Jackson Township Planning Commission approved the final submission for The Villas at Spring Valley Phase 2, making way for the construction of 10 homes with 40 units on Zehner School Road, near the intersection with Lutz Road.

The Villas at Spring Valley previously received tentative approval in late 2017 or early 2018, according to Nikki Colton, township project manager. Since the tentative approval, the only proposed change was for the township to buy the right of way from the developer using funds from the levied traffic use fees. Colton said the developer supported the plan, which could lead to a roundabout at the intersection of Gudekunst, Zehner School and Lutz Roads. That plan is not finalized.

“That intersection has always been something that we wanted to take care of,” Colton said. “And as it starts to develop down in that area, it's a good time to take the opportunities that we can to get the right of way needed to put something in to make it safer.”

Following deliberations, the commission unanimously approved the second phase.

The commission also discussed the success of the traffic light on Tollgate School Road. “It works,” Ed Komoroski added.

Following discussion about a lot on Route 19 that now houses “burnt-out” refrigerated trailers, which Colton said she would investigate, the commission adjourned.
