A Butler woman was arrested after she allegedly fired a warning shot from a handgun early Tuesday morning.

City police believe the suspect, Brittany N. Green, 25, was under the influence of alcohol around 1:45 a.m. when she shot the 9 mm pistol into the air outside her home on the 300 block of West Diamond Street, authorities said. No one was injured.

District Judge William Fullerton arraigned Green on a felony charge of aggravated assault and three misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment. She was placed in the Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail.

Patrol officers went to the defendant's home after they heard a gunshot, police said. They found Green and three others on or near the porch.

She claimed no one fired any shots, according to charging documents, but police noticed a live 9 mm round on the ground where she was standing.

Moments later, an officer removed a pink and black 9 mm pistol from her waist. There was an empty magazine in the gun and the slide was locked back.

Police said she still denied firing the gun.

Green claimed she only racked it to show a man who was there that she wanted him to leave, according to documents.

But a short time later, an officer spotted a spent 9 mm casing on the front porch in front of the door. The defendant then admitted firing the gun.

“She stated she did it to give (the man) a warning shot because he would not leave,” documents said.

Police said they suspect all four people at the house were intoxicated.

Green's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday.
