Mars senior crowned Big Butler Fair Queen
Incoming Mars Area High School senior Madison Myers was named 2019 Big Butler Fair Queen.
Madison, 16, daughter of Tim and Marlene Myers of Mars, served as a community ambassador for the Big Butler Fair.
She was awarded the crown, along with a $500 scholarship, at the annual Butler Fair Queen Pageant, held June 11.
The annual contest is open to female Butler County residents ages 16-20. It consists of four segments, with each segment counting toward points.
Each contestant meets for a personal interview with the judges, who award points based on conversational ability, appearance and poise, activities and knowledge of the fair.
Contestants also compete in an evening gown segment in which they introduce themselves to the judges and an audience. They are judged on content, stage presence and appearance. They then must give a persuasive speech on why a person should come to the fair. Each contestant is also asked an impromptu question in front of the audience.
Madison’s first official appearance in her new role was at the Mars Area Public Library Summer Reading Kickoff in her hometown June 17.
