Kids and volunteers help herd goats from Allegheny GoatScape to their temporary pen in Cranberry's North Boundary Park. The herd is on site for the next few weeks grazing on overgrown grass and weeds.
Goats help thin the grass in park
Goats will keep chomping weeds in North Boundary Park this weekend.
The Cranberry Township park welcomed a herd of goats and one donkey last weekend. The four-legged “chew crew” is due to stick around through July 4, at the earliest.
The goats are around to chow down on weeds and other brush in hilly areas that are difficult to mow. They were brought in by the Pittsburgh nonprofit Allegheny Goatscape.
Aside from their utility, the animals provide a bit of new scenery for park-goers. Look for them gnawing around two retention ponds: one south of the veterans' baseball field and one by a pond between North Boundary Park Road and North Boundary
