Concert aids flood victims in Harmony, Zelie area

Local musicians, businesses and nonprofits are coming together to help those affected by May’s severe flooding.

A benefit concert will take place at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille July 14, with proceeds benefiting those affected by flooding in Zelienople, Harmony and surrounding areas. Donations also will be given to the Harmony Fire District to buy submersible pumps and Allegheny Aquatic Alliance to aid its cleanup efforts at Connoquenessing Creek.

The funding will help those affected by the May 28 storms that dumped nearly five inches of rain on southwest Butler County. Organizers said the community rallied to help others during the days following the flooding, and will continue to do so with events, such as the benefit concert.

“During the flood, the community came together to assist one another,” said Josh Meder, owner of The Center of Harmony. “For those of us (who) have experienced flooding, we understand the real work begins after the floodwaters recede. The physical, emotional and financial toll of cleaning up and rebuilding is hard.”

The concert will begin at 6 p.m. at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille in Warrendale and features performances by Jim Donovan and The Sun King Warriors and Dennis McCurdy & Lonesome No More. Tickets range from $20 to $30 and can be purchased online or at the door.

Doors open at 5 p.m., and the event will also feature a basket raffle.

Donations can also be made through the GoFundMe page “Rising Above the Waters.” Businesses interested in becoming sponsors should contact Meeder at Josh@greatthingsllc.com.
