Primary shows challengers gaining school posts in KC

Incumbent falls short in both party contests

The Karns City School Board will have two new members in January.

Brenda Ealey, Joshua Price and three incumbents won both party nominations, according to unofficial results from Tuesday's primary, and will appear on both party ballots for five open seats on the board in the Nov. 5 general election.

Incumbent Dennis Kelly did not receive enough votes to win a nomination from either party and incumbent Chad Hershberger didn't run for another term.

The district lies in Butler, Armstrong and Clarion counties.

On the Republican ballot in the three counties, incumbent Matt Bishop led all seven candidates with 644 votes followed by incumbent Bryan Fleeger with 625, Ealey with 572, Price with 569 and incumbent James Friters with 532, according to unofficial results.

Kelly received 500 votes and challenger William Summerville received 439.

On the Democratic ballot in the counties, Ealey led the candidates with 375 votes followed by Bishop with 353, Fleeger with 348, Price with 328 and Friters with 305.

Kelly received 246 and Summerville received 230.

In Butler County, Bishop led the Republican ticket with 434 votes followed by Fleeger with 428, Price with 409, Friters with 362, Kelly with 359, Summerville with 311 and Ealey with 292, according to the unofficial results.

The Democratic ticket in Butler was led by Bishop with 234 votes followed by Price with 228, Fleeger with 222, Ealey with 201, Friters with 196, Kelly with 159 and Summerville with 158.

In Armstrong County, Ealey led the Republican ballot with 215 votes followed by Bishop with 160, Fleeger with 144, Friters with 125, Price with 120, Summerville with 96 and Kelly with 95.

The Democratic ballot was led by Ealey with 118 followed by Fleeger with 82, Friters with 78, Bishop with 77, Price with 60, Kelly with 52 and Summerville with 40.

In Clarion County, Ealey led the Republican ballot with 65 votes followed by Fleeger with 53, Bishop with 50, Kelly with 46, Friters with 45, Price with 40 and Summerville with 30, according to unofficial results.

The Democratic ballot was led by Ealey with 56 votes followed by Fleeger with 44, Bishop with 42, Price with 40, Kelly with 35, Summerville with 32 and Friters with 31.
