Strange sound in wall turns out to be bees

CRANBERRY TWP — Firefighters, police and emergency medical responders converged on a home in Evan Court in Cranberry Township Friday morning after reports of strange sounds coming from one of the walls.

Emergency lights flashed throughout the neighborhood as police talked with the homeowners outside the domicile and waited for firefighters to arrive with their heat scanner to evaluate the risk.

Firefighters entered the building fully equipped, but no flames would be found, according to Fire Chief David Mack.

They made their way to the offending area and a heat scan showed a hot spot in the wall.

“The scanner did show a hot spot,” he said. “We drilled a small hole to better see what it was.”

The hole was drilled, but no flames, steam or heat emerged.

Instead, out of the wall came bees, disturbed by the drilling intruding on the nest they had built in the wall.

Relieved the home was not at risk, responders left the scene and the homeowners called a company to deal with the bees.
