CRANBERRY — A local DoubleTree Hotel celebrated National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day on Friday by handing out cookies to first responders.

Although the official day for chocolate chip cookies was Saturday, Pittsburgh-Cranberry DoubleTree sent Albert Heiles, marketing manager, and Carrie Yauch, director of sales and marketing, to “kick off the weekend” by delivering tins filled with their cookies.

Select fire stations, police stations and medical emergency centers were given cookies, including Cranberry Township Fire/EMS.

Representatives from DoubleTree went to the fire station at 1:30 p.m. Friday to hand-deliver a box of cookies to the emergency services personnel in the area.

Five members of the fire department were able to receive the cookies.

“This is part of our welcome — not only at the hotel but in the community as well,” Yauch said. “It gives us the opportunity to come and share our experiences over cookies.”

DoubleTree also invited the public to stop by the hotel and pick up a free cookie from 6 to 10 a.m.

Cookie tins were also available for purchase on Friday with proceeds benefiting Beverly’s Birthdays, a local nonprofit organization providing birthday cheer for children experiencing homelessness and families in need.
