Police warn of new scam

State police are warning residents of a utility company scam that victimized a 38-year-old Forward Township resident last week.

An unknown man impersonating a West Penn Power employee Wednesday called the victim, telling him that he owed additional money on his account. The victim was told that if he didn’t pay, his electric service would be turned off. Police said the victim paid using a prepaid card that the impostor requested.

Residents are reminded not to share personal or financial information to any unsolicited individual on the phone or online, and to verify with the company any debt.
