CRANBERRY TWP — A Kittaning man was arrested Thursday for allegedly attempting to sell six pounds of marijuana in a township parking lot.

Cody L. Adams, 28, is charged with two counts of manufacturing, delivery or possession with intent to deliver, criminal use of communication device and two misdemeanor possession charges after an investigation by state Bureau of Narcotics officers.

Cranberry Township police were asked to assist with surveillance of an expected drug transaction on Cranberry Springs Drive, according to the criminal complaint. Officers allegedly observed a car pull into the parking lot of the address and next to another vehicle. According to police, Adams and another passenger exited the vehicle and met with an unidentified man. They popped the trunk and opened a cooler which, “obviously contained marijuana,” the complaint states.

All three men were detained. Officers said they found six pounds of marijuana inside the cooler, in vacuum-sealed bags.

Officers obtained gas station surveillance footage from earlier in the afternoon which reportedly shows Adams and the passenger transfer the cooler filled with marijuana. Officers also found messages on Adams’ cell phone which, “clearly indicate Adams was preparing to and planning to sell six pounds of marijuana.”

Adams was arraigned Thursday night by District Judge David Kovach, who set bond at $10,000. An Aug. 31 preliminary hearing is scheduled.
