CRANBERRY TWP — A township man is facing felony drug charges after allegedly selling drugs to a confidential informant earlier this year.

Matthew G. Banyas, 23, faces four counts of possession with intent to deliver drugs, two counts of criminal use of a communication facility, misdemeanor intent to posses a controlled substance and misdemeanor use or possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges stem from a series of incidents in January.

According to the criminal complaint, a confidential informant told officers on Jan. 22 that Banyas had offered to sell 10 bags of fentanyl for $150. The deal was allegedly negotiated through text message and Snapchat, according to court documents.

The informant met Banyas at a gas station in the township, police said, and exchanged the money for 13 bags allegedly containing fentanyl.

On Jan. 29, the informant allegedly purchased 14 additional bags for $150 at the same location.

Banyas was arraigned Thursday before District Judge David Kovach. He was released on his own recognizance, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Sept. 7.
