A Butler mother is accused of driving on drugs with her two young children in the back seat of a car.

Kristi K. Kiefer, 41, was arraigned Thursday on felony child endangerment and other charges stemming from a May traffic stop in Butler.

State police pulled over Kiefer about 8:45 p.m. May 8 after they heard a be-on-the-lookout advisory for an erratic driver, according to court documents.

Trooper Matthew Kephart said he saw Kiefer driving down the middle of Mercer Street and run a stop sign before he stopped her on the 700 block of West Penn Street.

He noticed two children, ages 3 and 6, in the car's back seat, and suspected Kiefer was impaired. She acknowledged the kids were hers, police said.

She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology reports later showed she had amphetamine, marijuana and methadone in her system.

Police on Tuesday charged Kiefer with felony and misdemeanor counts of child endangerment as well as multiple counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and three traffic violations.

District Judge William Fullerton arraigned the defendant, who is free on nonmonetary bail. But Fullerton ordered her on pretrial supervision.

Among the conditions placed on her release is that she cannot drive and she must submit to drug and alcohol testing twice a week.
