CRANBERRY TWP — Charges are stacking up against a township man who has tangled with the law three times in two months.

Marcos Isaac Baldeo, 25, was connected to a police chase with speeds reaching up to 96 mph in May, as well as a high-speed crash in June that injured three people, and now to a recent traffic stop that brought charges of resisting arrest.

According to the criminal complaint filed Monday, officers were called to a home in Trenton Court June 23 for an argument between the caller and six individuals. Documents say police were familiar with the home — Baldeo’s — where they had gone the previous evening for a similar call.

The caller told police that Baldeo and his friends were smoking marijuana in the building.

While en route the officer passed a vehicle containing at least five people, one of whom was identified as Baldeo. A traffic stop was initiated and officers allegedly noticed Baldeo, who was seated in the back, reaching around his clothing and the floor of the vehicle.

Baldeo exited the vehicle to speak with police, and dropped something on the ground which he then picked up. Officers conducted a pat-down and allegedly found a small amount of marijuana, a black plastic digital scale and rolling papers. Baldeo was handcuffed, and the complaint states he continued to conceal the dropped object.

Officers asked Baldeo to drop what he was holding, to which he allegedly replied, “I ain’t giving up my property,” and clenched his fist around the object. The officer tugged on Baldeo’s hand and then, “shoved (him) to get him off balanced and then took him to the ground,” the complaint states. The object was found to be a key ring and keys.

Baldeo was taken back to his home and released.

This week, he was charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest, use and possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana in connection with that traffic stop.

On July 3, he was arrested for a June 14 incident in which he allegedly crashed his vehicle on Autumn Hill Drive just after noon. One person was trapped in the vehicle as the result of that accident. One passenger was treated at UPMC Passavant for minor injuries, while two others were treated for more severe injuries at Allegheny General Hospital and UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, the complaint states.

Officers determined Baldeo was driving east on Autumn Hill Drive at high speed when he lost control on a curve. The vehicle turned sideways, left the road, entered the front yards of two residences and struck a mailbox, a communication box and a tree.

The complaint states Baldeo had a blood-alcohol level of 0.139 percent. A blood test also showed marijuana was in his system.

Baldeo is charged with felony aggravated assault by a vehicle while DUI, misdemeanor DUI by combination of alcohol and drugs, and traffic citations for driving at unsafe speeds and careless driving causing serious bodily injury. He was released from jail July 6 after posting $15,000 bail.

That incident occurred while Baldeo was free on bail from a May 28 incident in which he allegedly was speeding and refused to get out of his car after being pulled over.

In that case, police spotted a car in Zelienople exceeding the 35 mph speed limit, and a pursuit ensued.

The pursuit reached speeds of about 96 mph before Baldeo pulled into a parking lot. Police ordered Baldeo to put his hands in the air as one of the officers approached the driver’s side and tried to open the door. Baldeo closed it on two different occasions, documents state.

Police said they warned Baldeo they would use a Taser if he didn’t get out of the car, and then tried to pull him out. But he resisted their efforts, documents state. Cranberry Township police were called for backup and after another officer got there, Baldeo finally exited the car.

A subsequent pat-down search turned up a spring-assisted pocket knife from one of his shorts’ pockets, according to court documents.

When police asked him why he was traveling so fast, Baldeo allegedly replied “he missed his turn but did not feel he was speeding at all.”

Baldeo was charged with possession of a prohibited offensive weapon, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, illegal racing, driving at an unsafe speed and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.

He was placed in Butler County Prison on $5,000 monetary bond, which was later reduced to $2,500 unsecured bond. He posted that bond and was released from jail on June 5, according to court documents.

Baldeo was scheduled to appear for formal arraignment before Judge William Shaffer on Tuesday, but a court filing Wednesday indicated he failed to appear. A motion for a bench warrant was submitted by Robert Zanella, assistant district attorney.

A preliminary hearing on the other two cases is set Friday before District Judge David Kovach.
