CRANBERRY TWP — Township supervisors during their meeting Thursday night approved a $77.3 million budget for 2018 that keeps the real estate tax rate steady.

The millage rate will remain at 13.25.

Water and sewer rates remain the same, although sewer rates will be reevaluated in the first quarter of 2018. There will be a 25 cent increase for trash collection fees in July.

A Cranberry resident with a household income of $94,000 and a property assessed at $24,500 would pay $789 in property and earned income taxes to the township, according to township documents.

Public safety makes up the largest chunk of the $23.1 million general fund budget at $6 million. As part of a two-year plan, four officers will be added to the police force and two patrolman positions will be added in 2018.

Public works makes up the second-largest part of the general fund budget at $5.4 million. In 2018, $1.2 million is committed to road maintenance.

General government costs are at $4.6 million, recreation is $1.4 million and community development is $1.2 million in the general fund budget.

The capital expenditures includes the expansion of the fire company's Park Station and renovations at Haine Station, a disc golf course at North Boundary Park, continued expansion and upgrades at the Brush Creek Water Pollution Control Facility, and radio system upgrades.
