Trail work day set for Saturday

PENN TWP — Those who use and appreciate the Butler-Freeport Community Trail can attend a volunteer work day from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Chris Ziegler, president of the trail council, said volunteers will meet at the Bonniebrook Road trailhead and work their way south toward the Herman bridge.

Ziegler said crews will remove brush and logs from the trail that resulted from the removal of several trees that fell over the past year.

Tools needed for the project include chainsaws, pruners, gloves, eye protection, shovels and rakes.

Ziegler will have a limited number of T-shirts for volunteers on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Butler-Freeport Trail is a 21-mile converted rail track with 14 trailheads that is enjoyed by walkers, joggers, cyclists, birdwatchers and other nature enthusiasts. More information on the trail is available at www.butlerfreeporttrail.org.
