PITTSBURGH — A Mars man pleaded guilty to a federal conspiracy charge for his role in a scheme in which a pharmacy chain allegedly mislabeled and reused old medications from nursing homes.

Gino Cordisco, 47, of Mars, the former manager of Med-Fast Institutional Pharmacy, will face a maximum total sentence of five years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both, according to a news release from Acting U.S. Attorney Soo Song.

Med-Fast, which is based in Beaver County, and its associated officials and entities have reached civil settlements for improper submission of claims to the Medicare and Medicaid programs, the release said.

Iserve Technologies, a company run by Med-Fast, was ordered to pay $400,000 in forfeiture, $44,600 in a criminal fine and $1.6 million to the United States.

Med-Fast Pharmacy, its owner Douglas Kaleugher, who lives in Cranberry Township, and related entities also have agreed to pay the U.S. to settle civil False Claims Act allegations, bringing the total amount of restitution to $2.7 million.
