A Butler man pleaded guilty in Butler County Court on Wednesday to sexually assaulting a woman in July.

Robert R. Gladd, 53, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor intimidating a witness and indecent exposure before Judge William Shaffer.

The plea agreement calls for a sentence of two years of probation, restitution, fines and no contact with the victim. He is scheduled for sentencing Jan. 11.

Gladd was initially charged with felony aggravated indecent assault without consent, intimidating a witness, sexual assault and misdemeanor indecent assault after an incident in Washington Township on July 3.

The felony charges were later dropped at the preliminary hearing level, and the misdemeanor intimidation charge was later added as part of the plea. All other charges will be dismissed.

The victim told police that she invited Gladd to a get-together with her husband July 2 at the couple's home, where they drank alcohol. Gladd slept on the couch, and the morning of July 3, after the husband left for work, the woman said she and Gladd drank a large amount of beer.

While drinking at the kitchen table, the suspect rubbed her leg twice, the woman reported. She told Gladd to “have respect” because she was “happily married,” documents said. The woman estimated that she consumed eight to 10 beers before taking a nap about 10 a.m., documents aid.

A short time later, documents said, she awoke to find Gladd naked and sexually assaulting her. She told police that she screamed and kicked him and told him to leave, which he did. However, the next day Gladd called the home and left two threatening messages on her telephone answering machine after she reported him to police, authorities said.

Police said in the messages Gladd apologized for his actions and blamed the alcohol, but also warned the accuser and her husband, documents said, that if they “didn't get the cops (off) his back that there would be trouble.”
