BUFFALO TWP — A 45-year-old man was taken to the hospital by helicopter Monday afternoon, after falling 15 feet from his tree stand on the Lernerville Speedway property in Buffalo Township.

Emergency responders said the man fell shortly after shooting a 7-point buck. Matt Cypher, chief of the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company, said the man had compound fractures to one leg, and was taken by LifeFlight to Allegheny General Hospital. He said the man fell while attempting to climb down from the tree stand and field dress the animal.

Buffalo Township VFC personnel used their all-terrain utility vehicle to retrieve the man, who was about a quarter mile east of the Lernerville parking lot.

The utility vehicle brought the man to the helicopter, which landed in the parking lot.

Emergency personnel appeared to be talking to the man as he was loaded into the helicopter, but no further information on his condition was immediately available Monday.

Saxonburg Emergency Medical Services and Buffalo Township police also responded to the scene.

The state Game Commission was at the scene Monday afternoon as well, to deal with the deer.
